Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why auto-racing?

The first program AiArthritis established as a nonprofit was World AUTOimmune & AUTOinflammatory Arthritis Day (#AiArthritisDay), a day to teach the world about the difference between full BODY "AUTO" diseases that include inflammatory arthritis and the more common type of arthritis (Osteoarthritis).

This was in response to frustrated patients who felt friends, family, coworkers, classmates, the medical community, and the general public largely misunderstood the depth of their diseases and challenges associated with them.

The "auto" theme helps compare our full body diseases to automobiles (i.e., engine = heart, pipes = lungs, headlights = eyes) - clarifying these diseases often affect organs, too.

Lastly, AiArthritis is known for our non-traditional programs, thinking differently to gain more impact. So it seemed fitting our signature event not only remembers our very first patient-inspired program, but that it also is in keeping with our non-traditional style!

  • Do I need to be present at the in person event if I purchase a race car?

If your company or clinic is one of the 16 Race Teams IN the official Race-A-Thon, yes, because the race IS the main event entertainment!

If you purchase a Community Support Car and are not in the official race, attendance is not required, but encouraged!

  • Can I start a peer fundraising team?

YES! This is a great option for groups looking to maximize their donation contribution. Contact the event assistant, Veronica, at veronica@aiarthritis.org and she will help get you started!
