340b
The federal drug discount program created by Congress under Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act in 1992. It requires drug manufacturers to enter into pricing agreements with the federal government under which they agree not to sell covered outpatient drugs to participating providers above 340B ceiling prices.
AiArthritis Position Statement On 340b
Lack of oversight and transparency in 340B has allowed the size and scope of the program to expand far beyond its original intent and for hospitals to gain windfall profits instead of ensuring the drug discounts ensure access to care for low-income patients

What is 340B? (Brian's Perspective)
Brian Duvall, patient advocacy manager, explains the 340B Drug Pricing Program—a federal initiative aimed at providing discounted medications to hospitals, with the goal of supporting underserved communities. While 340B helps expand access to affordable medications, it faces criticism for lack of oversight and potential misuse by hospital systems.
340B Issues: Why Patients Should Care (Brian's Perspective)
Brian Duvall explains the importance of the 340B Drug Pricing Program for patients. Although 340B aims to provide affordable medications and aid underserved communities, a lack of transparency enables hospitals and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to profit. This exploitation affects your access to care and affordable medications.
340B Story (Brian's Perspective)
Brian Duval shares a troubling story about how the 340B Drug Pricing Program is being misused. He exposes how the Bone Secure Hospital System in Virginia used 340B profits to invest in wealthier neighborhoods, neglecting the critical needs of the Richmond Community Hospital and its underserved patients. This real-life example reveals how the program's potential is being undermined
