What is CAR-T Cell Therapy? CAR‑T cell therapy (chimeric antigen receptor T‑cell therapy) is an advanced treatment that uses a person’s own immune cells to fight disease, and the way it works has been changing and improving over time. It was first used for certain blood cancers and given only in highly specialized hospitals, but now it is also being studied as a possible option for autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritis diseases. With CAR‑T, some of your T cells (a type of white blood cell) are taken from your blood, changed in a lab so they can better find and attack harmful cells, and then put back into your body. Newer versions are being designed to be safer, longer‑lasting, and easier to receive—aiming to “reset” the immune system more precisely and, in the future, make treatment more accessible for patients.
